i really want to plant some nice flowers that will last all year round?

but the place where im planning on planting flowers doesnt get TONS of sunlight (does get enough however) but its right by my front door and i would like for that area to look nice. i live norther california and get lots of rain and sunshine. but i want these plants to last all year round! is this possible????

try starcatcher lillies, i think they will last a long time. They also do pretty well in shade, unlike most flowers.

Plants to last year round, yes. Flowers in bloom year round, not that I have ever heard of. You can get flowers that bloom at different times.

There are many fine perennial plants that will come back year after year, but there are no plants that will flower all year round. All non-tropical plants have seasons. If you want a yard to look nice all year round you need to use a succession of plants, and include some evergreen shrubs that provide color and structure throughout the year - even in winter.

You should go to a local garden center (not a big box store) and see what they recommend. Also check out local gardens for things you like. Gardeners are mostly friendly and chatty and will give you advice and maybe even cuttings of their favorite plants.

katie, Try calling a nearby florist and they can answer your questions. I found a large online list of California local florists. Try visiting one near where you live.
