I am planting a bed of flowers in New England and need tips?

planting flowers
Morgenstern asked:

It is about 15 feet long and 5 feet deep. The soil is not the best but is decent. It doesn’t get the sun until about 11am then only until about 4 or 5pm.

What kind of flowers should I plant in here?? I bought some seeds for Dianthus, Monarda, and Oriental Poppies but would these all go together?? Any other suggestions?

Also, should I start the seeds inside or is it okay to plant them out there?

Thanks!

it”s okay to plant them outside if temps are above 32 degrees. full sun is actually only 6 hours of full sun. the poppies might eventually overtake the others.

Good choices, and in Fall try planting Yellow Daffodil bulbs and/or Red Tulips…when Spring comes around next year it’ll look great!

I don’t garden myself, but my mother has daffodils and irises in her garden. She grew them a little inside first then planted them in the ground and they have come up every year since. We live in Massachusetts, and early spring still has frosts at night, so she kept them inside until they could establish some roots.
